THE PECULIAR AUTUMN
Autumn on Sylt is both wild and mild, a time for passionate nature lovers. Stormy surf, fascinating cloud formations, plenty of peace and quiet, and a walk on the beach is all to yourself. Enjoy an unforgettable bike ride. Experience the spectacle of flocks of birds. Recharge your batteries in complete silence.
We especially enjoy traveling to Sylt at this time of year; you can read about our personal highlights for a break on the island in autumn here.
DISCOVER SYLT BY BIKE
Even in the cooler autumn months, discovering Sylt's stunning beauty by bike, preferably with an e-bike, is a special experience. We love it!
Our tip: The bike tour from List to Westerland
This cycle path takes you from the north of the island to the center of Westerland, taking you on one of the fastest and most direct cycling routes. The nearly 17-kilometer-long cycle tour starts at Lister Harbor, passes the Lister Wanderdüne (Laster Dune), and offers magnificent views of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. A short detour on foot through the nature reserve with its nature trail at the Kampen Bird Hide is definitely worth it.

MYSTERIOUS MUD SEA
The Wadden Sea is a unique natural landscape with many unique characteristics. Did you know that? The mudflats consist of different types of mudflats. There's the soft mudflats, whose grain size is so fine that they run between your toes and look like a mud pack. Then you walk over firm, coarse-grained sand, and sometimes over an intermediate stage called mixed mudflats. Each of the three mudflat types is home to very different animal communities, which the mudflat guides will introduce you to. Various tours are offered – our favorite is walking through the soft mudflats!
Very important: Never explore the Wadden Sea without a guide!
Insider tip: The panoramic route
Especially in autumn, we particularly enjoy the approximately 1.5-hour panoramic route from Morsum to Keitum. It leads along the Wadden Sea National Park through expansive salt marshes framed by reeds and offers a beautiful view of the seemingly endless mudflats. On a clear day, St. Severin's Church and even the Kampen lighthouse can be seen from afar. You also walk past impressive archaeological finds, the "Daanshoog" and "Ingehoog" burial mounds, and enjoy a wonderful view of the Keitum Cliff.
